A Roman blind gathers into a fabric stack at the top when raised, which can sit over part of the glass on a tall drop. If headroom above the window is tight, a honeycomb blind stacks much smaller and clears more of the view.
Roman blinds fold the fabric into horizontal pleats as they raise, so the deeper the drop, the taller the stack.
When to choose honeycomb instead
- Honeycomb (cellular) blinds compress into a slim stack, so they sit out of the way at the top of the window.
- That makes honeycomb the better pick when there's little wall above the frame, or when you want maximum glass uncovered.
- Both fit inside a recess or face-fit over the opening.
