Common questions

Everything you need to know about curtains and blinds.

The questions we hear most, answered. Fabric, measuring, install, motorisation, care, and what suits which room.

Measure the width of your existing track or rod (or where you'd like one to sit), then the drop from the top of the track to where you want the curtain to finish. Most Australian homes look best with curtains just off the floor. See our full step-by-step measuring guide before placing your order. For curved windows, see the curved track guide.

Sheers filter daylight while keeping privacy soft. Blockouts stop almost all light and improve thermal insulation and noise reduction. Most Australian bedrooms run both as a double pair, so you can switch between filtered light and full darkness without compromise. Learn how to perfectly pair curtains or how to order your own double pairing.

Sheers vary by weave and weight. Linen-look weaves like Odin and Prevelley give a textured drape. Lighter sheers like Cloud and Bali filter more daylight. See our guide to the best fabrics for sheers and voile vs woven. Order $5 sample packs with free express shipping to feel each fabric in your home before committing.

Most curtains can be gently vacuumed monthly with an upholstery brush. Roller and venetian blinds wipe down with a damp microfibre cloth. Honeycomb and roman blinds need a soft duster or vacuum on low. See our curtain care guide, how to care for your blinds, and keeping venetians clean.

Bedrooms suit blockout rollers or honeycombs for thermal control. Kitchens, bathrooms and laundries work best with PVC shutters or venetians because they handle moisture. Living rooms suit roman blinds for softer texture, or roller blinds for clean modern lines. See blinds for the kitchen, perfect bedroom window treatments, and best bathroom window treatments.

Yes, especially in rooms where you want privacy, insulation and a finished architectural look that fabric treatments can't match. "Plantation" has become the catch-all term for wide-louvre indoor shutters, but most on the Australian market (ours included) are PVC rather than hardwood. PVC handles bathrooms, kitchens and laundries without warping, and gives a cleaner painted finish than timber. See picking your perfect shutter frame.

A double roller pairs a sheer roller with a blockout roller in a single bracket, giving you two layers of light control at one window. Drop the sheer for filtered daylight and privacy during the day, drop the blockout for darkness at night. Common in bedrooms and living areas. See double roller blinds explained and how to order your own double roller pairing.

Yes. Most C&BCo customers install themselves with a standard drill, level and tape measure. We send everything labelled and pre-assembled where possible. Roller blinds take about 15 minutes per window, curtain tracks about 30. See 7 tips for placing a DIY curtain order, your new blinds from start to finish, or how to find an installer if you'd rather hand it over.

Yes. We supply battery-powered Motionblinds motors for both curtain tracks and roller blinds. They connect to most smart home systems (Google Home, Alexa, Apple HomeKit), run quietly and recharge via USB-C. No rewiring needed in most homes. See Motionblinds curtain motors and motorisation options at a glance.

Custom-made fit the exact dimensions of your window, drape correctly and use heavier-weight fabrics built to last a decade or more. Ready-made tend to look ill-proportioned because Australian window sizes rarely match the standard cuts. Custom usually works out cheaper per year of use.
