Blockout Roller Blinds

Our blockout roller blinds are clean, minimal and easy to live with. They’re simple to install, seriously effective at reducing light and heat, and ideal for bedrooms, living areas and anywhere you’d rather not squint. With a wide range of modern colours and fabrics to choose from, finding one that works with your space is the easy part.

with

No light through the fabric

Closed-weave blockout fabric is fully opaque — zero light penetration through the material itself.

without

Light filters through

Light-filtering and sunscreen fabrics let varying amounts of light through — fine for some rooms, not for others.

with

Furniture & Flooring Stay Protected

Blockout fabric blocks UV rays entirely, preventing sun damage to carpets, furniture and flooring.

without

UV Exposure Continues

Sheer or light-filtering options reduce but don't eliminate UV — fading accumulates over time.

with

No visibility in or out

Fully opaque fabric means no silhouettes visible from outside when lights are on inside.

without

Silhouettes show through

Light-filtering and sunscreen fabrics can reveal indoor movement to those outside after dark.

with

Day & night flexibility

Add a sunscreen on the same bracket for filtered daytime light and complete privacy at night — two blinds, one solution.

without

No flexibility

A single roller blind can't adapt between daytime ambience and night-time privacy.

Total Light Control, Zero Compromise

Blockout roller blinds do exactly what the name promises — they block light. Made from fully opaque closed-weave fabric, they're the go-to choice for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms where you need genuine darkness, not just reduced brightness. Clean, minimal and available in a wide range of colours, they look as good as they perform.

Sleep Better, Work Better

The right amount of darkness makes a real difference — to sleep quality, screen visibility and general comfort. Blockout roller blinds are the simplest, most cost-effective way to achieve it. Available in a huge range of colours and textures, they're just as easy to live with aesthetically as they are practically.

Double It for Day-to-Night Versatility

A blockout roller blind is brilliant on its own — but paired with a sunscreen on a single bracket, it becomes a day-to-night window system. Use the sunscreen during the day for filtered light and views, then drop the blockout at night for complete privacy and darkness. Two blinds, one neat bracket.

Buy quality Blockout Roller Blinds online

Give your windows an instant makeover with made-to-measure roller blinds. We offer these classic window treatments in a range of materials to achieve the look you’re after without any fuss.

Highly versatile with blockout, sunscreen and light-filtering options, our roller blinds work brilliantly throughout the home. Roller blinds also look great with curtains, so you can further personalise your windows without sacrificing style. With a wide range of contemporary shades available, matching your existing colour scheme won't be difficult either.

Selected roller blinds can also be supplied with wireless motorisation, offering complete control over light, temperature and privacy at the touch of button!

At The Curtain and Blind Company Australia, we believe in giving you exactly what you want, which is why you can customise your window treatments to the 'nth degree. You can choose the exact height and width you want, choose whether you would like the blind to sit on the outside of the window frame (face fit) or within the recess (recess fit) and choose whether you want your chain control mechanism on the right or left side of the blind.

With us, buying your roller blinds online is both simple and secure. Once we deliver the finished product, all you need to do is use our easy-to-follow instructions for quick DIY installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Blockout Rollers
Measure & Install
Delivery & Returns

Do blockout roller blinds block all light?

he fabric itself is fully opaque — no light passes through it. However, the total darkness achieved also depends on installation. When recess fitting, there's a natural gap of around 13–15mm on each side between the fabric edge and the window frame where some light can creep in. For the most complete blackout result, we recommend face fitting with a backward roll, which minimises these edge gaps. A slightly oversized face-fitted blind will always deliver the best light-blocking performance.

Do roller blinds help with insulation?

Yes, roller blinds can help with insulation, but they do not offer the same insulating performance as cellular (honeycomb) blinds. Blockout roller blinds can help reduce glare and some heat transfer, but they are primarily designed for light control and simplicity.

Are roller blinds easy to clean?

Yes. Most fabrics can be lightly vacuumed or gently wiped with a damp cloth, making roller blinds one of the lowest-maintenance window covering options.

What rooms are blockout roller blinds best suited to?

Blockout rollers are ideal for any room where light control is a priority — bedrooms, nurseries, home theatres and shift workers' rooms being the obvious ones. They also work well in home offices where screen glare is an issue, or anywhere you want complete privacy without the bulk of curtains. For living areas where you still want some natural light during the day, pairing a blockout with a sunscreen in a double roller gives you the best of both.

How do I measure for roller blinds?

You measure the width and drop of your window recess (for inside mount) or the area you wish to cover (for face-fix). Our helpful roller blinds measuring guide walks you through both options step-by-step.

Can I add a sunscreen to my blockout roller to make it a double?

Yes — any of our blockout roller blinds can be paired with a sunscreen blind on a single bracket to create a double roller. This gives you filtered daytime light via the sunscreen and complete privacy at night via the blockout, both controlled independently. You can browse our pre-paired double roller options or build your own custom combination.

Do roller blinds need a deep recess?

We recommend a minimum recess depth of 70mm for a clean internal installation. If your recess is shallower, face-fix mounting is often the better solution.

How long does delivery take?

Burano curtains are custom made to order, with a typical turnaround of 4-6 weeks. We'll keep you updated on progress throughout the making process.

My delivery has arrived damaged, what do I do?

On the rare occasion this happens, we're here to help! If you spot notable damage to your boxes after delivery, please take a photo of the affected area(s), then open the boxes and check for any damage to the goods inside. If everything seems okay, proceed as planned. If you find any damage to the included goods, please take a photo of the affected area(s) and share them with us so we can provide an appropriate solution.

What happens if I'm not home for my delivery?

All of our customer orders are shipped with automatic 'authority to leave' advice for the freight partner or local courier. However, if they cannot find a secure area to leave your goods, a card should be left with customer collection and/or re-delivery details. If this is not the case, please contact us for support.

What do you charge for delivery?

For orders of over $199 value, we offer free delivery to major Australian metro locations. This excludes shutter orders, which cannot be shipped for free due to the parcel sizes and weights involved. Delivery costs for shutter orders are calculated at checkout before payment is required. For orders of less than $199 value or for orders being shipped to outer metro and regional areas (outside of the Northern Territory and Tasmania), we charge a modest $50 flat fee. Orders dispatched to the Northern Territory and Tasmania carry a standard flat fee of $150. We want to be as transparent as possible with our shipping costs, so please review our ‘Delivery & Returns’ page (via the link in the website footer) before ordering.
