How-toHow do I measure for a motorised curtain track?
You measure a motorised curtain track exactly as you would a standard track: your chosen width and your drop, entered as measured with no deductions. The motor doesn't change how you measure.
-
1
Pick your width approach
Decide whether the track sits a little past the window (about 150 to 300mm each side) or runs wall to wall.
-
2
Measure the width
Measure your total intended track width with a steel tape and enter it as-is, with no deductions.
-
3
Measure the drop
Measure from where the top of the track will sit down to the floor, with no adjustments.
-
4
Handle a cornice
Sit the track just below the cornice with a minimum 10mm gap. Only if you top-fix up over the cornice does it affect width.
-
5
Check it twice
Measure twice with a steel tape, and send us photos if you want tailored advice.
You measure a motorised curtain track exactly as you would a standard track. The motor doesn't change anything about how you measure. Use a steel tape and measure twice for accuracy.
Width is your choice
Two popular approaches:
- Run the track a little past the window, roughly 150 to 300mm beyond the frame on each side, so the curtains clear the glass when open.
- Run it wall to wall to dress the whole wall.
Either way, measure your total track width and enter it as-is, with no deductions.
Drop
Measure from where the top of the track will sit down to the floor, with no adjustments. If you want the curtains to just touch the floor, choose the 'No floor deduction' option when ordering.
If you have a cornice
A cornice affects your drop, not your width. We usually suggest sitting the track just below the cornice, leaving a minimum 10mm gap between the underside of the cornice and the top of the track.
The one exception is if you top fix and run the track up over the cornice. There the cornice limits the space, so measure the width available between the cornices on each side.
