Care

How do I clean sheer curtains, and should I use detergent?

We do not recommend a full machine or hand wash on sheers. The fine fabric can shrink, which changes the drop, so a gentle surface clean is safer than a soak in detergent.

Sheer fabrics are light and finely woven, so they react more than heavier cloth to heat and water. A full wash risks shrinkage, and once the drop pulls up short there is no easy fix.

For day-to-day care, keep sheers looking fresh with light, regular attention:

  • Vacuum gently with a soft brush head to lift dust before it settles in.
  • Spot-clean small marks with a damp cloth and cool water, not hot.
  • Let any damp patch air-dry fully before you draw the curtains.

If a mark won't lift with a gentle spot-clean, email info@curtainandblindco.com.au with your fabric details before trying anything stronger, so we can suggest the safest option for that sheer.
