What custom curtains cost in Australia
Ask what custom curtains cost and you will mostly get "it depends", followed by a form asking for your phone number. We think that is a poor answer from an industry that cuts fabric to known schedules and prices to known formulas.
So here is a better one. We went through a full year of our own orders, window by window, and published what people typically paid.
For most windows, a single custom curtain costs $450 to $1,000, made to your measurements, track and all. A double curtain, which layers a sheer and a blackout (you will also see it spelled blockout in Australia, same fabric) on one double track, typically runs $900 to $2,000. Very wide spans and full-wall glass sit above those ranges, and the table below covers them.
Those are real medians and ranges from real orders, not a "from $99" teaser attached to a size nobody has.
Prices below are the middle 50% of what customers paid us in the past year, by track width. Every curtain is made to the millimetre in our own Australian factory, and prices include GST.
| Track width | Sheer (single) | Blackout (single) | Double (sheer + blackout) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 1.5m | $400 to $540 | $475 to $545 | $895 to $1,025 |
| 1.5 to 2.5m | $490 to $635 | $535 to $675 | $1,030 to $1,260 |
| 2.5 to 3.5m | $590 to $760 | $645 to $845 | $1,230 to $1,540 |
| 3.5 to 5m | $695 to $980 | $850 to $1,105 | $1,505 to $1,945 |
| Over 5m | $895 to $1,375 | $1,190 to $1,550 | $1,990 to $2,950 |
The middle 50% of configured prices over a full year of orders, per window, including GST and the track options customers chose.
A worked example or three. A 1.8m bedroom window in a blackout fabric lands around $595. A 3m living room window in an S-fold sheer lands around $645. Dress a 4m sliding door with a full double, sheer for the day and blackout for the evening, and you are around $1,700.
If your exact window is not in the table, you do not need a quote. Enter your measurements on any product page and the price updates instantly.
Width, more than anything. A custom curtain is mostly fabric, and fabric scales with width faster than you might think. A properly made single curtain carries at least 2 times its track width in fabric, and our own cutting schedule never drops below 2.08x for singles. Every extra metre of track is more than 2 extra metres of cloth, plus the making. Our S-fold fullness guide publishes the full schedule.
Fabric choice. Blackout fabrics carry coated, light-stopping construction and cost roughly 10 to 20% more than sheers at the same size on our order data. Within each category, individual ranges sit above or below the medians in the table.
Layers. A double curtain is genuinely two curtains on a shared double track, so it prices like two curtains, not like a curtain and a half. It is one of the most ordered configurations we make, because it solves daytime privacy and evening light control in one window.
The heading, barely. Across the same 12 months of orders, the median spend per curtain varied by about 5% whether customers chose S-fold, double pinch, triple pinch, or pencil pleat. Choose the heading on look, not price. Our heading comparison covers how.
The track. The prices above are whole-window prices as customers configured them, track and all, and we make the tracks in our own factory too. Motorised tracks are the main upgrade that moves the number.
A ready-made curtain from a chain store is cheaper because it is a fixed panel cut to nobody's window. If it is too narrow, it hangs flat and skimpy. If it is too long, you hem it or live with it.
At the other end, in-home custom services carry the cost of consultations, sales visits, and installation crews in the price. Buying direct from the maker online sits in between: factory-made to your window, without the house call. You measure and hang it yourself, and our step-by-step measuring guide plus install videos make that a normal afternoon job, not a trade skill.
Start with the swatches: the fabric in your own light tells you more than any price table.
