How do I get my blockout curtains to settle into neat folds?

Blockout fabric is heavier than sheer, so it takes longer to soften into folds. Re-dress the curtain and leave the ties or cling wrap on for 36 to 48 hours to train the folds in.

  1. 1

    Re-dress the folds

Run your hands down the curtain and shape it into even, consistent folds from the heading to the hem.

  2. 2

    Hold the folds in place

Tie the folds with the supplied dressing tape, or wrap them in cling wrap if the tape is no longer available.

  3. 3

    Leave it to set

Keep the ties or cling wrap on for 36 to 48 hours so the folds train in and soften.

  4. 4

    Release and check

Remove the ties. The folds should ease into shape. If they still won't settle after this, get in touch and we'll help.

It's normal for blockout curtains to look a little sharp or pointy at first. The fabric is denser than a sheer and needs time to relax into shape.

Tip: If your original dressing tape is gone, wrap the dressed folds with cling wrap to hold them while they set.
