How to order for an existing curtain track

To ensure perfect curtain and track compatibility, we highly recommend using the custom-made track we supply with new curtain orders. However, if you'd prefer to use an existing track, the following guide should help establish if your track is likely to be compatible and then walk you through the relevant measuring and ordering processes.

For Pinch Pleat curtain tracks

Compatibility check

With an existing pinch pleat curtain track, the dangling runners located inside the track should be loose (not connected by string), as per this example:

If this matches your existing track type, please measure the width of the track and count the number of dangling loose runners. To help ensure compatibility, there should be a loose runner for approximately every 100mm of track width. An example calculation would be:

2500mm wide track (divided by 100) = 25 loose runners

If your track has more or less runners than this calculation, our pinch pleat curtain may not be compatible. However, if you can add or remove runners, you may be able to match the required quantity. If this is not possible, our pinch pleat curtain will not be compatible with your existing track and we recommend using the compatible track supplied with a new order.

If you are unsure, please email a couple of photos of your existing track to info@curtainandblindco.com.au. We’ll need to see upwards into the track to assess the type of runners and also from the side to see how the runners are located in relation to the track. We’ll also need to know:

• Track width(s)

• Number of runners

• If the runners are loose or strung together

Measuring your track

If you are happy with the outcome of the compatibility check, you can proceed to measuring your existing track. Please follow these steps:

• Measure the drop (height) from the centre of an existing runner loop down to where you would like the curtain to finish

• Measure the width of your existing track from the left outer edge to the right outer edge

Ordering without a track

When ordering a pinch pleat headed curtain for use with an existing pinch pleat track, first select the required pinch pleat heading (double or triple). Next you will see the Track Type customisation options, select Not Required.

Subsequent customisation options will automatically adjust to reflect your choice. This includes selecting if the curtain will hang below the existing track (underslung) or sit in-line with the existing track (covering most of it). If you’d like it to sit in-line, please provide the height of your track in the accompanying order notes.

Lastly, please mention in your order notes if your existing track is a cord draw or hand draw.

For S-fold (wave) curtain tracks

Compatibility check

With an existing S-fold curtain track, the dangling runners located inside the track must be connected on a string and be able to swivel 360 degrees without the string becoming tangled, as per this example:

If this matches your existing track type, please measure the width of the track and count the number of dangling runners present. To help ensure compatibility, there should be a runner for approximately every 60mm of track width. An example calculation would be:

2500mm wide track (divided by 60) = 42 runners

If your track has more or less runners than this calculation, our S-fold curtain will not be compatible with your existing track. In this instance, we recommend using the compatible track supplied with a new order.

If you are still unsure, please email a couple of photos of your existing track to info@curtainandblindco.com.au.

When ordering a S-fold headed curtain for use with an existing track, you will need to use a workaround method to place the online order.

In Pleating options, select a double pinch pleat heading (not S-fold). In Track Type, select Not Required.

Subsequent customisation options will automatically adjust to reflect your choice. This includes selecting if the curtain will hang below the existing track (underslung) or sit in-line with the track (covering most of it). For S-fold headed curtains, only underslung should be chosen as S-fold headings do not typically work in-line.

Please mention in your accompanying order notes that you require a S-fold heading - if this is not clearly conveyed, we may manufacture the heading as ordered. For added peace of mind, feel free to send an email to confirm this requirement after you’ve placed your order.

Lastly, please also mention in your order notes if your existing track is a cord draw or hand draw.

DIY Curtains: Can You Install Sheers Yourself?

Absolutely — and it's easier than most people think. If you can handle a cordless drill, you can install sheer curtains yourself. Modern DIY curtain systems come with everything you need: the track, brackets, screws, hand wands, and clear installation guides.
The key is getting your measurements right before you order. Measure your window width and drop in three places (left, centre, right) and use the smallest measurement. This accounts for any unevenness in your ceiling or window frame and ensures a clean, professional fit.
For S-fold sheers — the most popular heading style for that contemporary, wave-like drape — a designer aluminium track is included, and installation is straightforward whether you're face-fixing to the wall above the window or top-fixing directly to the ceiling for a dramatic floor-to-ceiling look.
